HARPSWELL — If you are a guest at the historic Harpswell Inn, you’re likely to hear the phrase “we want you to feel at home.”

And that is exactly what innkeepers Richard and Anne Moseley and the staff try to accomplish on a daily basis at their Lookout Point Road location.

From dipping one’s hand into the bottomless cookie jar to relaxing with a good book on the front porch, and everything else the bed and breakfast has to offer, a visitor quickly becomes immersed in the coastal quietness and comfort that does seem like home.

Recently, The Times Record visited with Richard and Anne to talk about the inn, its history, the wonderful views of Middle Bay from their veranda and what makes their “home” so special.

The next business I would like to highlight is a little closer to the coast. Actually, the business is so close to the coast you could throw a stone and hit the tidal pools in Middle Bay. I am talking about the Harpswell Inn located on Harpswell Neck, a beautiful bed and breakfast owned by Dick and Anne Moseley.

The Harpswell Inn was recently highlighted in the Boston Globe’s “Coastal Comforts” section, and the article reads like a trip to paradise. From the beautiful scenery outside to the cozy decorating inside, this home originally built in 1761 will woo you in.

If that isn’t enough, Anne’s cooking will make you forget most of the troubles that ail you. I can personally attest if you experience the Harpswell Inn just once, you’ll look for reasons to come back again and again.

Like the owners of Brackett’s Market, Dick and Anne have every right to be proud of their accomplishments. Because of their hard work, both these businesses have been recognized as organizations of excellence.

But there is more.

Brackett’s Market and the Harpswell Inn have something else in common besides being bestowed accolades: their sense of community. The owners of both of these great businesses look for ways to serve and support their local downtowns and business networks. Both have a passion to help make their communities the best they can be.

And yes, both are fiercely proud of the associates that work with them and make up their respective teams. They understand that by working together with others, everyone’s fortune will rise.

I hope you will join me in congratulating Brackett’s Market and Harpswell Inn for their achievements and recognition. They are two of the award winning pieces that make our Mid-coast region the best in Maine and New England.

Take the time to drop them a card — you can find their addresses on the chamber’s website — and let them know you appreciate them helping to make our area a great place to live, play and work.

“HARPSWELL, Maine — A great blue heron flies low over several houses close to Casco Bay, then across the water and off again. It is one of the only distractions in a place of hardly any noise.

Along this southern coast, west of Brunswick and east of Boothbay Harbor and Camden, is Harpswell, a group of finger peninsulas and over 200 islands that include Great Island (Sebascodegan), Orr’s Island, and Bailey Island. In spite of the names, the peninsulas are connected by bridges. Harpswell Inn is located on Harpswell Neck, the peninsula closest to Brunswick.

The inn offers plenty of places to contemplate the water. Dick and Anne Moseley bought the 1761 house seven years ago…”
